      Camino Primitivo

Camino Primitivo in Lavadoira, Asturias, Spain
The Camino Primitivo, or Original Camino is the oldest of the Camino routes to Santiago de Compostella. King Alfosno II of Asturias is considered its first pilgrim in the 9th century.
The Camino Primitivo involves many steep ascents and descents. Consider dropping your per-day distance target by 2-4km.

      Routes

      Camino Primitivo
The main Camino route starting in Oviedo and ending at Stantiago de Compostella and following the Southern route
      Hospital Route
Orginally the main route, the Hospital Route is a mountainous track to Berducedo. It passes the ruins of hospitals - pilgrim's inns - from when this was the main route.
The route is long and there are no services. Ensure you have sufficient food and water.
      Burón Route
Burón was the original centre of this region and the original pilgrimage route passed through this location.
      Camino del Norte Connection
The original start point of the Primitivo. Start from Villaviciosa on the Camino del Norte and walk up to Oviedo.
Camino del Norte Connection, High-level Variant
Bypass the Monastery of Santa María la Real de Valdediós and head directly into the hills.
